Alexis McCant is the 2023-2024 Anderson Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Alexis has been teaching for ten years. She joined the Anderson team this year to teach 3rd grade.

"My desire to work as a teacher was greatly influenced by the notion that educators have an unmatched capacity to influence the lives of their students. A student's academic career can be influenced by the relationship that is developed between an inspiring teacher and an inquisitive student. This relationship can go beyond the simple transfer of knowledge to include mentorship and emotional support."

Alexis said her time working in public schools has been "transformative and enriching."

"I'm grateful for this opportunity given to me here at Anderson. Being able to work alongside such great likeminded teachers who also want to bring change, inspire and uplift the students we work with has been a great joy."

Outside of work, Alexis is passionate about volunteering in the community. 

"My sister, my cousins, and I stated a non-profit organization called PBJ, People Bringing Joy. It’s an organization where we cook and distribute meals blankets and clothing the less fortunate."
