Tulsa Public Schools provides health and wellness educational opportunities to students in elementary and secondary school. Tulsa Public Schools believes that parents/guardians hold the primary responsibility in educating their students about all health and wellness topics. The health and wellness education provided by Tulsa Public Schools to students is meant to help support the information taking place between the student and their parents/guardians. All education is medically accurate, age appropriate, and taught by trained educators.
Before any health and wellness education takes place with students, the school will send direct notification to parents/guardians via Talking Points and/or physical forms. All parents/guardians have the option to opt their student out of any health and wellness education. The student’s course grade will not be affected if they are opted out of any health and wellness education. Parents/guardians can elect to remove the student from education at any time with an opt-out form which should be filled out and returned to the student’s school.
Below is a table detailing the health and wellness education students may receive. The table outlines:
- The specific grade levels of education
- How students are grouped for education
- The concepts and topics in the education
- The program or organization responsible for providing the education
- General opt-out forms for each education
Health and wellness education is scheduled throughout the school calendar year. Parents/guardians may contact their school with any questions prior to the date when education is scheduled.
