Kathleen Berrigan-Lockhart named Council Oak Teacher of the Year

Kathleen Berrigan-Lockhart is the 2025-2026 Council Oak Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Kathleen joined Team Tulsa in 2019, and this is her fourth year as librarian at Council Oak. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her role.

What led you to a career in education?

I’ve always loved books and learning, and I wanted to help students discover that same excitement. Becoming a librarian lets me support all learners, spark curiosity, and help students find information and stories that inspire them every day.

What is your favorite thing about your work?

My favorite thing about my work is getting to support both students and teachers. I love helping students discover new books and ideas, and I enjoy working with teachers to find resources, plan lessons, and support learning across the school. Being part of a team that helps everyone succeed is very rewarding.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?

One thing I’m passionate about outside of teaching is spending time with my family — my husband and my two kids. I also love karaoke! Singing is a fun way for me to relax, have fun, and enjoy time with others.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Council Oak truly is the best elementary school for both students and teachers. I love helping create a welcoming, positive environment where everyone enjoys coming to work and learning together. In the library, I enjoy building community by hosting fun activities for teachers, like chili cook-offs, clothing swaps, and other events that help us connect and support one another.
