Mary Boggs has been selected as the 2023-2024 Council Oak Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Mary is living her dream as a second grade teacher.

“When I was in 2nd grade, I had the most amazing teacher ever. Since then I’ve wanted to be a 2nd grade teacher. I love working with children and seeing that light bulb moment,” said Mary.

Mary started working for Tulsa Public Schools as a teacher assistant in 2014. After two years, she left to finish her degree in early childhood education and returned in 2018. She is now in her sixth year at Council Oak Elementary.

“I have learned a great deal about equity and how to make learning as accessible as possible. I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with and learn alongside the students in my classroom.”

Outside of the classroom, Mary is passionate about animals.

“I have volunteered at my local ASPCA, helped facilitate small donations drives, and worked closely with another organization fostering dogs at my home until they find their forever homes. I am also in the process of training one of my dogs to be a therapy dog. Adding a therapy dog to the classroom will allow children an opportunity to foster confidence, boost morale, strengthen social emotional skills, and empower students to be their best selves.”
